10 Best Dandruff Brushes 2024 | For A Flake Free Scalp

We’ve all been there. You find that perfect black shirt or dress to wear, and everything’s fine until... Oh no! What’s this? Your shoulders are coated with a fine dusting of dandruff flakes.

And what do you do next? Get the best dandruff shampoos, creams, essential oils. Just anything to get rid of this embarrassing problem!

But if you find that none of these treatments seem to work, it could be because these treatments aren’t reaching your scalp. Why not use dandruff brushes to fix this problem?

Related: How to get rid of dandruff

Dandruff flakes can form a thick, scaly layer on your scalp and prevent any medication or product from reaching the hair follicles and healing your skin. Ummm?

Do you just scratch dandruff off then? Nope, that would make it worse. Try using these best dandruff brushes instead.

These dandruff brushes can be used in the shower, along with your anti-dandruff shampoo. And trust us, they are great for removing any flaky build-up. The amazing scalp massage is also a bonus.

There are several dandruff brushes in the market. But these are our favorites:

Top Dandruff Brushes 2021

Vitagoods Scalp Massaging Shampoo Brush

best dandruff brushes

We think this Vitagoods Scalp Massager is one of the best dandruff brushes in the market.

For one, it comes with flexible and soft rubber bristles that are super gentle on your scalp. But we like how they’re firm enough to get rid of dandruff flakes and other debris.

Another thing we liked about the Vitagoods Scalp Massaging Shampoo Brush is its vibration feature. Just put two AA batteries in it, and the brush gives you the most relaxing scalp massage.

You can even select between a soothing soft massage mode and a normal mode for exfoliating the scalp.

This brush is slightly bigger than the others on our list. Now, this can be both a good and a bad thing, depending on your preference.

The bigger size allows it to cover a lot of your scalp area in one go, but we find it’s a bit difficult to maneuver.

We also were disappointed to see that you need to remove a panel with the help of a screwdriver to change batteries. But if you’re feeling lazy, the brush works manually just as well.

Marvy Shampoo and Scalp Brush

scalp dandruff brushes

If you’re happy with just a manual scalp massager, then try the Marvy shampoo brush. It’s not only among the best dandruff brushes on the market, but it’s also the oldest. The brand has been around forever!

You won’t be disappointed with the quality of this brush.

The vinyl construction and rubber bristles last for a long, long time. Despite its bigger size, this dandruff brush is quite comfortable and lightweight to hold.

What we liked best about the Marvy Shampoo and Scalp Brush was the design of its bristles.

They are all flat at the end instead of being pointy. So this brush doesn’t get too abrasive on your scalp.

All the bristles on this brush are closely-packed together. If you have short hair, this is a great thing - the massage is just brilliant. But if you’ve got a long mane, this closely-packed bristle design can lead to a lot of tangles. So be careful.

Vanity Planet Groove Rejuvenating Scalp Massager

Another product quite similar to the Vitagoods brush is this scalp massager by Vanity Planet. This dandruff brush also comes with a vibration setting.

You’d need to unscrew the panel to put in two AA batteries to get it going. But thankfully, Vanity Planet provides a free screwdriver with the box. So you don’t have to dig around the house to find one.

Still, some users have said they found it difficult to screw and unscrew the battery panel.

The bristles are quite flexible. But the issue lies with the speed settings - not everyone will like the abrasiveness of the higher speed.

Another thing that could have been better is the water-resisting capabilities. T

he Vanity Planet scalp massager is safe enough to use in a shower, but you cannot submerge it into water.

And there are chances that some water might drip down the battery panel.

Marnur Multipurpose Scalp Massager Brush

affordable dandruff brushes

If you want the bang for your buck, try the Marnur Multipurpose Massager Brush. It comes with three different attachments - a scalp massager, a loofah brush, and a mini body massager.

So you can not only get rid of dandruff flakes but also give yourself a complete spa-like experience.

The fact that this brush comes with a battery-operated vibration feature and is only slightly more expensive than others on this list, seals its place among the best dandruff brushes.

We liked how the brush is fully water-resistant too.

But if we got to talking about the flaws, we could find just one - the Marnur brush is a bit heavy. So if you’re planning to linger in the shower, it can get a bit uncomfortable.

Some users have also been disappointed at the lack of color selection. But the brush does its job, so we’d give that one a pass.

Heeta Scalp Shampoo Brush

how to get rid of dandruff from scalp

Looking for a quality manual scalp brush and massager? This one by Heeta is one of the best dandruff brushes out there! The first thing that caught our attention was its size. It’s neither too small nor too big!

The other thing that impressed us was the design and material of the bristles. Made of tourmaline and silicone, are just the thing for improving scalp health.

The flexible design makes sure the bristles don’t get too abrasive on the scalp.

We also found the knob holder and ergonomic design of the Heeta brush quite comfortable to hold and use. It fits right in the palm of your hand.

There are several options available for the color junkies too.

The Heeta dandruff brush is one of our favorites. But let us warn you, it is a manual brush at the end of the day. Using it for a long time can get tiring.

Maxsoft Scalp Care Brush

good quality dandruff hairbrushes

If you’ve got psoriasis or any scalp inflammation that leaves it tender and sensitive, using a dandruff brush might not seem like a good idea.

But it’s still necessary to get all the flaky crust out. In this case, the Maxsoft Scalp Care brush is your best bet.

The bristles are made of soft silicone material. They gently massage and cleanse your scalp without irritating it further. We also liked the way this brush is shaped.

The knob handle provides the perfect grip, while the surface reaches even the nape of your neck and the back.

This Maxsoft brush is a bit heavier. But that’s to be expected with a brush of higher quality. It can, however, get a bit uncomfortable to use as it is a manual brush.

Scalpmaster Shampoo Brush

best hairbrush for dandruff

A dandruff brush doesn’t have to be something fancy. If you want to keep it simple and go for something that is light on your pocket, try the Scalpmaster shampoo brush.

This manual brush comes with densely packed and slightly hard plastic bristles. So if you want to give your scalp a good scrub, the Scalpmaster brush is perfect for the job.

We warn you, though. This product is not for those with more sensitive scalps. And it’s definitely not for folks with thick, Afro hair either.

The bristles will either tangle your curls or break. The Scalpmaster shampoo brush is great for fine-haired individuals in need of a good scalp scrub.

GBS Shampoo Scalp Massage Brush

massage brushes for dandruff

Another super affordable product on our list is this GBS Shampoo Scalp Massage Brush. The two things we liked about this brush is its compact size and concave design.

It fits into your palms easily. And despite being a manual brush, it’s not that uncomfortable to use it for a longer time in the shower.

The concave design makes sure the bristles reach every corner of your scalp. But speaking of bristles here’s what we didn’t like about the GBS brush.

Plastic bristles! Yes. The hard, plastic bristles make it impossible for people with sensitive scalps to use without any discomfort.

 Zyllion Scalp Massager Dandruff Brush

dandruff hairbrushes

What sets the Zyllion Scalp Massager Dandruff Brush apart from the others on the list is its dual bristle design.

You can find two bristle shapes on one brush - wide and flat ones and more conical-shaped ones.

The wide ones are excellent in promoting blood circulation on the scalp, while the conical-tipped bristles help remove dandruff flakes and other impurities.

But both types of bristles are made of a flexible, silicone material that’s gentle on the skin. You can even find varieties in colors in the Zyllion brush.

There’s one catch, though. If you’ve got really thick hair, you might find the bristles too soft to do their job. And it is at the end of the day a manual brush.

So if you’d prefer your brush to do all the work, we suggest taking a look at the vibrating ones on this list.

Queenwill Hair Scalp Massager

hairbrushes for dandruff

The Queenwill Hair Scalp massager is one of the best dandruff brushes for fine, thin hair. The bristles are made of high-quality, food-grade silicone.

So this brush lasts you a long, long time without bending or breaking. Also, the bristles are super flexible and do not hurt your scalp.

We like how the bristles are firm enough to dislodge all the flakes, dead skin cells, and product build-up from your scalp. The lovely pink color is also a plus.

If we were to pick one thing about this brush that stood out for us, it would be the grip. This brush comes with a plastic holder that you can slide your hand through.

There are grooves in the body to ensure your palm and fingers remain comfortable.

Dandruff is a problem that can affect anyone. Sometimes it can be a result of seborrheic dermatitis or scalp psoriasis and other infections.

Whatever may be its cause, the outcome is the same - nervousness, irritation, and hair problems. Read on to know more about dandruff and how to get it under control.

FAQs - Best Dandruff Brushes

How to choose the best dandruff brushes?

If you’re just picking out a dandruff brush in your favorite color, we’ve got news for you. There are so many other things to consider.

Manual or battery operated: Like if the brush is a vibration brush or a manual one. A vibration brush runs on batteries and can get quite expensive to purchase. But it also gives you an amazing scalp massage.

Plus, your hands get a bit of rest too. Manual brushes can be affordable but require more effort.

Grip: Another thing to remember before picking a dandruff brush is the grip it offers.

We think you should go for brushes that allow you to slip your fingers through them and rest perfectly in the palm of your hands.

They are the most comfortable. Brushes with finger-ring grips are good too, but they do not let you maneuver that easily.

Bristles: Lastly, you need to check the firmness of the bristles before buying your dandruff brush. If they’re too hard, the bristles might scrape your scalp harshly.

But if the bristles are too soft, they hardly get any build-up removed. So always find the right balance.

How can I get rid of dandruff flakes?

The best dandruff brushes can gently remove all the crusty, flaky build-up from your scalp. But this is just a surface solution.

The main purpose of these brushes is clearing a path for dandruff medication to reach the scalp.

For mild dandruff cases, home remedies like diluted lemon juice are enough. Essential oils like tea tree, peppermint, and eucalyptus, when mixed with hair oils or aloe vera, are another fantastic treatment for dandruff flakes.

But if you have severe flaking, you should go for shampoos or topical ointments containing ingredients like ketoconazole or zinc pyrithione

Does dandruff affect hair growth?

The unfortunate answer is yes. Dandruff does affect hair growth.

Too much flaky build-up can prevent the scalp from getting the right nutrients from your shampoos and hair growth products.

Plus, it blocks the hair follicles, causing folliculitis or scalp acne, and stopping new strands from growing.

Dandruff also messes with your hair shedding cycle. All of us lose a few strands naturally, but the constant itching and scratching can cause hair breakage and increase hair loss.

The flaky build-up is just the place where fungal infections or seborrheic dermatitis can thrive. These conditions can damage hair follicles and affect hair growth as well.

And there you have it, folks! That was our pick of the best dandruff brushes on the market.

You can choose the best one for you, depending on your budget, scalp, hair needs, and more.

These brushes, combined with other dandruff treatments like shampoos and ointments, will get rid of those pesky flakes in no time.

With regular use, you can rock those black outfits without checking your shoulders all the time.
