Of course, with wavy hair you also get that annoying frizz and you can't use products meant for very curly hair but hey, that’s why we have so many mousses in the market.

I first used these products on my own 2c wavy hair while styling and then rated them on a scale of 1-5 depending on certain parameters that I've listed below. These include:
- Moisturizing Ability - I first looked at the products ability to hydrate and nourish hair as wavy hair requires more moisture than straight hair types.
- Wave Holding Ability - I also checked how well the products enhance wavy texture of hair preventing frizz and bringing out the waves on hair.
- Ingredients - I checked if there are harsh ingredients like perfumes, alcohols or silicones in the formula and then rated the hair mousses accordingly.
Top Hair Mousses For Wavy Hair 2022
#1- Design Essentials Natural Curl Enhancing Mousse for wavy hair
My wavy hair tends to get really dry so I decided to try out this mousse from Design Essentials first as it promised to be really nourishing.
And honestly? I can't complain about this product's moisturization ability as it left my waves soft and hydrated in just one application.
I also liked how you don't require too much of the product, a little goes a long way.
Mind you, the avocado and almond oil formula can be a bit too nourishing so be careful about using too much or using it on fine, thin hair. It can weigh down your strands quite easily. So careful,
I also liked how this mousse is flexible and not sticky. It lets you scrunch your hair and wear in styles that appeal to you.
Also, it is free of parabens, alcohol and mineral oils, so this was a huge plus for me.
However, this mousse isn't perfect. If you're looking for a moisturizer for your wavy hair this is it. But if you want something to "Define" your waves or curls or hold your hairstyles in place you will be sorely disappointed.
The formula doesn't foam at all and will not give you any hold. So you can check out the OGX Locking + Curling mousse instead if you want something strong.
Pros:
- Contains added vitamin E that helps soften wavy hair
- The almond and avocado oil formula deeply nourishes dull, dry hair
Cons:
- The rich formula can get too heavy on thin or fine hair types
- The mousse contains a heavy oil-based formula so it doesn't suit oily scalps
- The formula doesn't foam well and offers little hold to your waves
My Ratings:
- Moisturizing Ability - 5/5
- Wave Holding Ability - 3.5/5
- Ingredients - 4.5/5
How to use
Apply onto wet hair and scrunch it with your fingers if you want it to be curly.
#2-OGX Quenching + Coconut Curls hair mousse for wavy hair
I had heard a lot about the company OGX as it's a very famous drugstore hair care brand, so I simply had to check it out.
And the first mousse I tried from them was their Coconut Curls one.
Well to be honest, this mousse did leave me a bit confused. On one hand I like it's ability to hold down a wave or a curl.
This is achieved by a lightweight formula that does not make your hair sticky or weigh it down too much. So that was a plus too.
And I was also fond of the way this hair mousse added a bit of bounce and volume to my hair which the richer Design Essential mousse didn't.
But that's just the thing, it's not very nourishing. So it feels like you're getting a strong hold and volume on your hair at the cost of making it dry.
Also, I hated that that I need to use an exact amount of mousse every time I used it. If I use too much by accident it leaves residue on hair and if you use too much your hair feels really dry.
However, I didn't quite expect it to be perfect especially at it's price. Which I must say is very affordable!
Another thing I want to warn you guys about is that this product contains added perfume. And while the scent is very pleasant it might not suit people with sensitive scalps.
Pros:
- Affordable drugstore prices
- Light pleasant fragrance that is not overbearing
- Lightweight coconut oil formula doesn't weigh down but is still very hydrating
Cons:
- Contains added perfumes and alcohol that can dry hair with frequent use
- Pump on the bottle is faulty and stops working after a few uses
- The mousse needs to be used in the exact amount or it leaves hair too dry or too greasy
- Formula might be a little too light for dry hair type
My Ratings:
- Moisturizing Ability - 4/5
- Wave Holding Ability - 4.5/5
- Ingredients - 3.5/5
How to use
Apply it evenly on your strands and use the right hair brush to gently get rid of the tangles in your hair. Wash it off with a good conditioner to maintain shine.
#3-OGX Locking + Coconut Curls hair mousses for wavy hair
I used this Locking + Coconut Curls mousse from OGX next as it claimed to be more nourishing than the Coconut Curls one.
I was also excited to use it because of the unique formula. It's a combination of foam and cream that's easy to spread through the hair and style it.
However, this product was a kind of a disappointment to me.
But first let me tell you about the (very few) good parts.
The cream part of it infused a lot of moisture into my hair and makes it easy to detangle it, while also giving it some lustre. It also calms down the frizz.
And yeah the foam part of it does hold up it's end of the bargain and keeps your waves in place. But....it makes your waves or curls awfully crunchy!
After using it for a while I also noticed that there were white flakes on my hair! Nope. This wasn't it for me.
I know OGX tried to combine the hydration of a cream with the hairstyle ability of a foam but they have failed.
Even it's nominal price cannot save it.
Pros:
- Part foam part cream formula hydrates hair while holding your waves for long
- Coconut oil formula hydrates hair without weighing them down
Cons:
- Leaves white flakes on hair
- Not nourishing enough for 4c curly hair
- Can leave waves crunchy after drying
My Ratings:
- Moisturizing Ability - 4.5/5
- Wave Holding Ability - 4.5/5
- Ingredients - 3.5/5
How to use
Leave it on for a considerable amount of time to get rid of frizz.
