How To Tie Your Hair And Protect It At Night 2022

How To Tie Your Hair And Protect It At Night 2022

If you want to learn how to tie your hair and protect it at night, check out this article below for some awesome tips to prevent hair damage and breakage.

Our hair goes through a lot of damage in our sleep. This is because our sleeping positions can exert pressure on the hair and cause it to pull and break.

Sleeping also ruins your hairstyle and gives you a bedhead in the morning. It feels like all the effort you took to style your hair is getting wasted when you wake up like this. And this can be frustrating and disheartening at times.

People with certain hair structures like wavy or curly hair especially find it difficult to maintain their hair while sleeping. Their hair curls get frizzy or build knots over time.

However, there are certain things you can do to make sure that your hair remains intact and protected in your sleep.

This will help in bringing down frizz and preventing the damage caused during your sleep.

Can I tie my hair when I sleep?

Tying your hair is fine for people with certain types of hair. It is not meant for everyone. You have to understand how your hair reacts to it and then go forward with it.

For people with long hair, it is impossible to leave their hair open and sleep because it can lead to knots and tangles. It is also annoying when you have hair everywhere in your sleep.

Short-haired people don’t really have to tie their hair while sleeping. Letting your hair loose can also let air flow through your hair and gives you a relaxing sleep.

Even if you are planning to tie your hair, make sure that it is a loose updo. The pulling of hair during your sleep can lead to hair fall and even an issue called traction alopecia.

If you have long hair, tying them up in braids is a great idea since it doesn’t cause tangles or pull your hair.

How To Tie Your Hair And Protect It At Night 2021

If you want to learn how to tie your hair and protect it at night, you should check out these tips below:

Use a Silk or Satin Pillowcase

How to tie your hair and protect it at night

The material of your pillowcase can really influence the quality of your hair. If you use a cotton pillowcase, it will cause a lot of friction with your hair and make it frizzy and tangled.

They also tend to absorb the moisture from your hair and cause dryness. This is especially true in the case of people with coarse, curly, and wavy hair.

But a silk or satin pillowcase can be a smooth surface for your hair to rest while sleeping. They are much gentler with your hair and do not absorb moisture or cause friction.

Silk pillowcases are hypoallergenic and are mostly composed of natural materials but they are a little on the pricier side. Satin pillowcases are a great option if you are on a budget and are easier to clean.

Do not sleep with wet hair

Your hair tends to be very fragile when it becomes wet. So sleeping with wet hair is a strict no-no. If at all you wash your hair at night, make sure to dry it properly using a dryer before going to bed.

Sleeping with wet hair can also trigger fungal infections like dandruff and dermatitis because the moisture gets stuck in your hair.

The warm environment on the pillow and your wet hair can be a breeding ground for such organisms so you should steer clear from this practice.

Detangle your hair before bed

what to do with long hair while sleeping

It is important to brush your hair before going to bed. If you have curly hair, you should make sure to at least detangle them. Start from the root and work through the tips.

You can either use a boar bristle brush or a wide-toothed comb to get the best results without causing any damage or breakage to your hair.

This process helps in distributing the natural oil throughout your hair and reduces the formation of frizz and tangles. You just have to do this gently for a few minutes until you feel like your hair is prepped for bed.

Use an overnight treatment

An overnight hair mask is probably what your hair has been missing out on. This product is perfect for lazy people who don’t want to spend time applying a mask after a shower.

Simply put an overnight hair mask before you sleep and let it work its magic by morning. This is super helpful for people with rough and coarse hair.

It provides intense nourishment and moisturization to your hair. If you are worried that the mask will get on your sheets and pillows, just cover your hair with a shower cap when you go to sleep.

Make sure to clean your hair thoroughly in the morning so you don’t leave any residue.

If you don’t want to take the effort to apply a mask on your hair, you can apply a nourishing serum or a hair cream that will moisturize your hair and stimulate hair growth.

Moisturize your hair

Dry and dehydrated hair tends to be fragile and is more prone to breakage and damage during sleep.

So in order to avoid such issues, it is important to keep your hair moisturized at all times.

Make sure to oil your hair often and use nourishing hair serums or creams that will keep it hydrated at all times.

Apply an oil treatment

This is a great alternative to hair masks and will give you amazing results. Hair oils are known to hydrate, strengthen and fortify your hair. This will result in gorgeous-looking tresses.

You can also make your hair immune to damages and frizz when you do an oil treatment regularly. There is no harm in keeping oils on your head overnight.

The best thing you can do is to warm up the oil and massage it on your scalp. It will improve the blood circulation on your scalp and improve hair growth.

Some of my favorite oils of an overnight oil treatment include coconut oil, jojoba oil, castor oil, and almond oil.

These oils will provide much-needed nourishment which includes vitamins and essential fatty acids to your hair while you sleep.

Tie your hair up while you sleep

If you have long hair, it is impossible to not tie your hair up before sleeping. Otherwise, you will wake up in the morning with tangled and frizzy hair.

Although it is not recommended to use an elastic to tie your hair, there are certain ways to do it which will ensure the safety of your hair.

Some of the ways in which you can tie up your hair before sleeping are:

how to tie hair while sleeping at night

Loose braid- Loose braids are the best way to preserve your hair while going to sleep. This will keep your hair under control and make sure that it is not all over the place.

When you have loose braids, your hair does not go through pressure which usually happens when you tie it up in a bun using an elastic.

But when you tie your hair up in loose braids, your hair will look curly or wavy in the morning so if you don’t want that to happen, you should look up at other options.

Loose french braid - The difference between a loose braid and a loose french braid is that a loose braid brings all the pressure around the nape of your neck but a french braid distributes it around your head. This is also a great way to tie your long hair when you go to bed.

Hair wrap- A hair wrap is my favorite bedtime accessory. These hair wraps are usually made up of silk or satin and help in protecting your hair from the friction caused in your sleep.

There is no fear of breakage while using these accessories and they also help in preserving your styles.

They are also available in the form of silk or satin shower caps that can be worn while you sleep.

If you want to stay away from the curls and waves that are usually formed after sleeping with braided hair, you can opt for this accessory.

A silk hair wrap or durag is also perfect for people with curly and wavy hair since it helps in reducing frizz and preserves your coils.

Fabric scrunchie- If you have the habit of tying your hair up in a bun while sleeping, you have to opt for fabric scrunchies made up of silk or satin.

This reduces the amount of pressure that is usually exerted by a regular scrunchie and doesn’t pull out your hair.

Pineapple ponytail- A pineapple ponytail is a great option for people with curly or wavy hair since it helps in preserving your natural coils without splitting your curls.

It also helps in having better control over your hair while sleeping. Simply gather your hair and tie it up into a loose ponytail at the nape of your neck.

Some people tie their hair up in a pineapple ponytail and then cover it with a silk scarf, turban, or a shower cap for that extra protection.

It is important to have a proper night care routine to make sure that your hair remains healthy and strong.

People often make the mistake of not taking care of their hair and prepping it properly before bed.

If you do not follow the above tips, it might put all your hair care efforts in vain. I hope this article helps you learn how to tie your hair and protect it at night.

With these steps, you can get keep your hair healthy and strong.
