Is airbrush makeup good for acne-prone skin?

Is airbrush makeup good for acne-prone skin?

Once you learn the dos, don’ts, and facts about Airbrush makeup, you might throw your makeup brushes and sponges. But before you do that, is Airbrush makeup good for acne-prone skin?

Airbrush makeup comes in options that suit different types of skin. For acne-prone skin, you should get Airbrush makeup that is labeled; paraben-free, non-comedogenic, oil-free, and hypoallergenic.

Besides buying products, applying Airbrush makeup will determine if the makeup will be good for acne-prone skin. Join me as I go through the process of Airbrush makeup on acne-prone skin in this guide.

Is Airbrush makeup good for acne-prone skin?

Following the right procedure when doing your makeup and buying paraben-free, non-comedogenic, oil-free, and hypoallergenic products will make Airbrush makeup work for your acne-prone skin. But does this make Airbrush makeup ideal for acne-prone skin?

When buying Airbrush makeup for acne-prone skin, you will have to put other essential factors into consideration.

Your skin type

You might have an oily skin type that is also acne prone.

In such a case, you should avoid water-based Airbrush makeup. Water-based makeup will slide off after a few hours. For this reason, your mineral-based or silicone-based makeup will work for your skin.

You can use water or mineral-based makeup if you have dry acne prone skin.

Your skin tone

Even after finding a brand that offers the ideal Airbrush makeup for your skin type, you still have to find products that match your skin tone.

If your acne-prone skin has some dark spots, you should get a foundation and concealer that is one or two shades lighter than your skin tone. This shade finder tool will help you achieve that.

Coverage

When buying Airbrush makeup on your acne-prone skin, you should factor in if your skin has bumps and acne.

You must buy highly pigmented makeup if you have acne, dark spots, and bumps. This will help cover most blemishes.

Once you have matched the three factors with your makeup, you can then go ahead and apply your makeup.

Is Airbrush makeup better than traditional makeup for acne-prone skin?

Both Airbrush and traditional makeup will work for your acne-prone skin. However, each type of makeup leads to different results.

Let’s say you have used the factors described above to get Airbrush and traditional makeup and apply the makeup the right way on your acne-prone skin. Below are the things you should expect.

Makeup look

Since Airbrush makeup is sprayed in a thin mist layer, some of your acne will still be visible after applying the first layer. After doing your full makeup, most of your blemishes will be concealed, and your makeup will be flawless.

On the other hand, the heavy nature of traditional makeup will make your makeup cakey. You can, however, take adequate time to blend in your makeup to achieve a more natural-looking makeup.

Safety

Sometimes the acne on your face is caused by bacteria transferred by using hands and other contaminated tools. This is why traditional makeup might not be ideal for acne-prone skin.

Airbrush makeup, on the other hand, is applied using a machine. One of the requirements is cleaning your Airbrush machine after every use. This means there is less or no contamination when applying Airbrush makeup.

Formula used

Since Airbrush makeup is lightweight, it will not clog your pores. Your face can keep you breathing when you are wearing makeup. Other ingredients used to make Airbrush makeup will benefit your skin and make your makeup last longer.

Traditional makeup, on the other hand, is too heavy. It might offer adequate coverage, but it will clog your pores. After a few hours of wearing traditional makeup, it will start reacting with your skin.

It is, therefore, safe to say that Airbrush makeup is better than traditional makeup on acne-prone skin.

Do Airbrush makeup cover acne and dark spots?

Although Airbrush makeup will work on your acne-prone skin, it does not entirely cover all the acne.

This, however, is very normal if you want natural-looking makeup.

If you have bumps and large acne spots, Airbrush makeup will not fill the spaces between the spots.

You will do to achieve optimum perfection by following some of the steps below.

How do you Airbrush over acne?

Acne Face
Acne Face

Since it is impossible to hide big spots and prevent your sensitive skin with just Airbrush makeup, I will give you some steps you can use to make your makeup more realistic on acne-prone skin.

Prep your face

The first thing you should do before applying makeup is prepping your face.

  • Instead of using a scrub, you should mask your face using turmeric.
  • Wash off the turmeric with some Luke warm water and a mild cleanser. Ensure you massage your skin gently when using a cleaner on a wet face.
  • Apply a toner to minimize the redness and inflammation in your skin.
  • You can then go in with a serum that contains Vitamin E.
  • Apply a skin color corrector to minimize the appearance of skin imperfections.
  • Finish up your skincare routine using an oil-free moisturizer.
  • You should also apply a mineral-based primer before starting your makeup routine.

Prepping your face before applying makeup will create a clean surface for makeup application. Some steps will calm your inflamed skin.

Dust your face with setting powder

If your face is too bumpy, your makeup will look very unnatural. You can, however, solve this by dusting your face with a setting powder after priming your face.

The setting powder will fill the spaces between your face bumps and acne. This results in a clean and smooth surface for makeup application.

Use enough amount of foundation

You might be inclined to use too much foundation to hide your skin imperfections. This, however, is further from the truth.

Using too much Airbrush foundation on a face full of acne will make your makeup look cakey. The products will also clog your pores resulting in more breakouts.

Apply a single layer of foundation using your Airbrush machine in strokes if you use concealer.

Use appropriate concealer

When Applying Airbrush makeup, you will still use different types of concealer for different roles.

  • Use an Airbrush concealer one or two shades lighter than your foundation to conceal dark spots.
  • Airbrush concealer for contouring should be two shades darker than your foundation.
  • As for the Airbrush concealer used as a foundation should be the same shade as your foundation.

Add each concealer to your Airbrush machine independently and spray one layer or two in strokes.

Do your eye makeup

Do capture eye makeup to remove all the focus from your acned face.

You can apply all your eye makeup using the Airbrush machine if you have liquid makeup. You can also dilute your eye makeup products with an airbrush thinner to get the right consistency.

  • Apply an oil-free eye cream followed by a concealer one shade lighter than your foundation.
  • Start with your brows, followed by eyeshadow, a liner, mascara, and then fake lashes.

Bake your makeup

To ensure your makeup is flawless and last longer, you should set your makeup using a loose setting powder.

  • Dab a fluffy concealer brush in a bottle of loose-setting powder.
  • Tap your face as shown in this video and let the powder sit on your face for five minutes.

  • Use the same fluffy concealer brush to blend in the powder and remove excess powder.

Baked makeup will last something between 12-15 hours without your makeup being spoiled.

Use a blush or a tint

Add color to your face, lock in your makeup, and apply blush or a tint.

A blush can be applied using your Airbrush gun the same way you apply Airbrush makeup. However, most tints are applied using a brush.

Finish up your makeup by applying a waterproof setting spray.

After a long day of slaying your makeup, you should not sleep with makeup. This night skincare routine for acne-prone skin will be of so much help.

Conclusion

Airbrush makeup works perfectly for most skin types. But is it good for acne-prone skin?

Definitely yes. You will find Airbrush makeup products that are paraben-free, non-comedogenic, oil-free, and dermatologist-tested.

Another thing that makes Airbrush makeup ideal for acne-prone skin is the method used to apply the makeup.
